Magnuson Build & Design provides customers throughout the greater Kalamazoo area with superior custom new home construction service.  Following the passing of Eric’s Stepfather and mentor Jim Roberts, Magnuson Build & Design was established in 2021 by Eric Magnuson who has more than 20 years of experience working for Jim Roberts Construction.  Of those 20 years, 16 have been as Jim’s Construction Manager. Dedicated to continuing Jim Roberts’ legacy of exceptional service, Eric has launched Magnuson Build & Design with a focus on exceptional service, quality, and value to every client he serves. We work with some of the best sub-contractors in the region, so you can count on us to handle your custom home build with a high standard of quality and energy efficiency. MBD takes pride in providing one on one service to ensure that clients are involved throughout the process, so their needs and expectations are met, and they are completely satisfied with the work we have done.

Following Jim’s death in April 2021, Eric completed the company’s 2021 Parade Home on East Long Lake Drive and undertook a new build on Clear Lake in Three Rivers, MI.

Eric Magnuson Bio

Eric Magnuson worked for Jim Roberts Construction, Inc. during the summer while attending Mattawan High School and Grand Valley State University. He left for a few years while serving the Army National Guard and returned to full-time employment in 2008. Eric has fine-tuned his carpentry skills and continues to take on greater responsibilities in the field. Eric obtained his Michigan Builders License in February of 2013. Eric has been mentored by the best and has pledged to continue Jim Roberts Construction’s legacy of providing distinctive, structurally superior, and energy efficient custom homes that families will enjoy for generations.

For more than 35 years, Jim Roberts Construction – a family-owned design/build company – provided exceptional service, quality, and value to every client they served.  Eric has launched Magnuson Build & Design with that same spirit and dedication.

Jim Roberts Bio

Jim Roberts served in the United States Air Force from 1975-1981 as an F-111 jet fighter mechanic. With that experience, he learned the importance of attention to “extreme” detail.

From there, Jim started building single-family homes and added more than 500 custom homes and large commercial projects to the Jim Roberts Construction, Inc. portfolio. In addition to building, Jim dedicated himself to promoting the best practices in his industry by serving as National Director for the National Association of Home Builders, past-president of Home Builders Association of Western Michigan, and served on the Code Compliance committee for the State of Michigan. Jim believed in continuing education and achieved certification as a Graduate Master Builder, Certified Green Professional, and is a Certified Aging-In-Place Specialist.
